MONROE – Terence “Terry” Van Dzura was appointed councilman-at-large, filling the seat vacated by Stephen Dalina, who was appointed interim mayor on Jan. 20.
Van Dzura, a 25-year township resident, serves as chairman of the township’s planning board.
A special election will be held in November to fill the unexpired council-at-large term.
Van Dzura, Dalina and Council President Miriam Cohen were under consideration for the interim mayor’s post, following the December death of Mayor Gerald Tamburro.
Van Dzura took the oath of office at the council’s Feb. 1 meeting.
Van Dzura has been a licensed general practice attorney since 1981. He is a former judicial law clerk and served as assistant Middlesex County prosecutor for three years. Van Dzura previously served as a Middlesex County arbitrator and municipal prosecutor for Edison and Carteret. He is general counsel to several local homeowner’s associations.
