Authorities are investigating an apparent murder-suicide at a home in Salem County.
Police officers responded to a home on Davis Street in Pennsville Township at about 5 p.m. Monday for a well-being check and got no response at the door, according to township police.
They spoke to the person who had called police and neighbors who reported hearing a loud noise — which they described as a possible gunshot — prior to making the call. The neighbors described past arguments between a man and woman in the home and believed the woman had recently moved out of the residence, police said.
Officers found an unlocked door and entered the home, where they found a 25-year-old woman and 26-year-old man dead of gunshot wounds.
“It is not believed any other persons were involved in the incident,” Pennsville Police Chief Vince Green said in a statement issued Tuesday morning.
The names of those involved have not been released, but they had apparently been in a relationship, Green said.
Pennsville police and the Salem County Prosecutor’s Office are investigating the case.
