
A navy report stated the assault occurred at 5:50 a.m. native time in a village in Lamitan Metropolis on Basilan, an island province off Mindanao.
The incident report stated a “white van” was detonated at a navy checkpoint in Colonia village in Lamitan Metropolis.
“Whereas troops had been conducting ocular inspection, the van all of the sudden exploded which resulted (in) the demise of 1 soldier and 4 (militia males) and wounding of two different militia males,” the report stated.
The navy stated the Abu Sayyaf militants might have been behind the assault.
