Toyota anticipates the plant will open in 2025 and produce batteries for hybrid and battery-electric autos.

“This marks one other vital milestone for our firm,” Norm Bafunno, Toyota North America’s SVP of Unit Manufacturing and Engineering, stated in a press release. “This plant will serve a central function in Toyota’s management towards a completely electrified future and can assist us meet our purpose of carbon neutrality in our autos and world operations by 2035.”

These new investments come after the passage of the Inflation Discount Act (IRA), which incorporates incentives for producers to construct batteries within the U.S. The IRA supplies tax credit to producers of $35 per kilowatt hour (KWh) for every U.S.-produced battery.

That $35/KWh incentive might add $3,000 to $3,500 in additional tax credit per automotive to producers constructing batteries within the U.S., a big boon for the business that can seemingly announce extra battery plant offers within the months forward.
